Myths, and Death, and Rituals, Oh my!

The term “theriomythic” is one that’s come into my field of view in the past while, and it’s gotten quite the reaction in my mind with regards to the reptile kintype I have in questioning. Seeing the term date back in relevance to “weremythic” on AHWW (archived discussion here) was sure interesting as well.
I’m wondering what the boundaries of that would be, as I’m left with wondering about a mythical or non-earthen reptile creature who performs ritualistic behaviors around the dead like certain earthen animals do (e.i. elephants, magpies, etc.). Any magic ability performed was written in instinctually, as reactions to invasion on territory. But I’m 90% sure I was no earthen reptile, given the intense drive to “fight fire with very literal fire” if that makes any sense.
I’m feeling pulls back towards a species with very maternal females, but a lack of paternal males, due to that drive towards seeking out my mother again but no drive to care for my own young of that species - much more likely to just eat the tiny things. But death rituals are written into those instincts as well, honoring deaths especially of mothers within the species.
I’m just rambling again. I’m not sure really where to go with this, and even as much as things point back towards that one thing I considered this species to be for a while but pushed aside to question further I’m left wondering what’s next.
